Loneliness

Author's note: This is a response to "The Fun They Had and it's very futuristic at that time. I hope you like it, enjoy!

Visualize yourself sitting in an enclosed area with your schoolwork and a mechanical teacher. You have nobody to comfort you, but the cold metallic skin of your teacher. This was how they went to school in 2157 and it is nothing like our present day. What these people might not understand is that sometimes technology isn't enough.

If you asked a seventh grade kid, what their favorite class was, they would most likely say lunch. Lunch is a time where we interact with each other and get a break from learning. Now, fast forward into the year 2157. In Margie's time you see  kids with no access to learning with their own kind. These children only learn with their own mind and clearly, this is not enough. This ironic lifestyle seems horrible, but to them it's just a regular day, but when they find information about a real school, this is when they think about their own life compared to ours.

Though we think about the future and how things would be so better. Sometimes we need to keep the techniques that work for us. It just isn’t enough to put a laptop in front of somebody and say, Here you go, this is everything you need to research and learn. With all of this technology around people have to understand that sometimes older things are better and you have to have people around you to comfort and help you learn as your life goes by.

Ferris Wheel

As the day goes by many people visit me.
There are many young and many old.
Some are newcomers and some are the regulars.
Many adore me and many are scared.
Most of them, left me, but some of them stay.
But that did no good.
Because now they have closed me down.
My wheel has been rusted and my gears have been busted.
My popularity is gone as the new ones come in.
Some are fast and some are slow.
Some are even a nasty freak show.
But this is the worst.
The one that took me away.
The rollercoaster put me into a lot of pain.

Friends

In a person's life, they find a friend; a friend to rely on. In my experiences, my friends and I  would  find hiding spots, play games, and most importantly, getting through life knowing some one's "got  your back."

Tom's romantic life reflects on many people, and most of those people needed some time to get  away from ordinary life, but for Tom, his life was what we consider a romanticism. He went  through everyday life having a friend to support him and make his decisions in life. One of those  friends was Huck Finn. Huck went on many adventures with him. They went pirating, treasure  hunting, observed a murder, and just had fun. Tom and Huck had some great times and some  difficult times, but in the end they come out to be great friends.

Mark Twain had a certain theme in his book. Not only was it escapism, but it was the friendship  between three young boys. Tom's life is just like yours or mine. We all need someone, whether it's  a parent, friends, relatives, or even a little furry dog. Even though we are from different times, we  all rely on each other.

A Romantic Twist

Chapter 25
Authors Note:
When the wooden oar swept the last molecule of water, the boat crashed into the tan grains of sand.  The men gathered their shovels and headed off into the tropical forest. While stomping through the murky water, they stumbled upon a  red "X" on top of a rocky soil. The men started shoveling into the fertile soil and out came the treasure. This type of adventure arises into almost every boys' mind. In Tom's case, this was that day. Tom informed Huck of the amazing idea of treasure hunting, and as always, Huck was more than willing to do almost anything for the gain of money and the thrill of the adventure.

The Romantic chapter had a little twist to it. The author played with the symbolism and the mode. The plot line was definitely  a romantic one, but there were ironic symbols mixed in with it too. With a quote from the book, "Suppose you find a brass pot with a hundred dollars in it, all rusty and gray, or a rotten chest full of di'monds." using a rotten chest full of diamonds and a rusty gray pot full of money, it's pretty clear that the author was trying to tell us is that there can be good things hidden dark objects.

Tom lives the life of complete romance and he is the envy of all boys. The adventurous Tom and Huck find nothing, but their souls keep them on the right path. Despite the all the hardships along the way, Tom and Huck find a way to bring excitement and joy into their lives.

The Robbery

A journal entry created by Jack Ellington
There he was standing on a side walk staring at a bank robbery. He was just an innocent bystander looking all the money go away. Then the world went blank for that man. He fell to the ground wondering why the world was spinning. He looked up at the full moon and turned his head to the red ambulance and the people surrounding him. He looked at his hands while we was carried onto the ambulance. He was wondering why is my black shirt covered in red and what I have done?  As soon as he reached the hospital the doctors worked on stopping the bleeding, but the doctors failed him. He was gone.

George Lopez

George Lopez-
A homework assignment
I think George Lopez is a comedy, because it always starts in their kitchen which is a considered a normal room. Then next there is a conflict. Like when George and his wife Angie went over their budget and they had a contest who would be the cheapest person over the week. Then after a while it turns into a disaster. Then here's the resolution, they finally come to a conclusion that they can spend money, but just not that much, BUT here is the part that stumped me. George Lopez doesn't always return to normalcy. Sometimes they just solve the conflict and the story is over, so I would call this mostly a comedy.

A Life Without Patriotism

A meaningful reflection on why patriotism still matters.
Sometimes I wonder what our country would be like with no patriotism. Could we really be a country if we had no one who loved it, no one who was willing to make ultimate sacrifices to defend it?   I believe without patriotism there would be no America.
To be honest I don’t know a lot about patriots or about war because I’m only thirteen. I’ve only read about the Vietnam War in a fictional book called Cracker and sometimes I hear news about Afghanistan and Iraq. I do, however, have my grandfather John, who we like to call Poppy. Poppy was drafted into the Army. He fought in the Vietnam War for a couple of years, but this is the thing that stands out. He was setting an example of patriotism for his entire family and community. Later his son Joe, my uncle, developed a love for flying.  Later in Joe’s life he took that love into The United States Air Force where he serves our country.  Now Joe, like his father, is setting an example of patriotism for me and the next generation. Without spreading the inspiration of patriotism, without people who love and are willing to defend our country, there soon couldn’t be an America.
Patriotism sometimes results in the deaths of the people who loved their country. In a website I found it listed thousands of people who died in the Iraq and Afghanistan war. So many people have died for our country’s safety and I don’t think people recognize this as much. Every one of these war hero’s names had written right next to it “Don’t let the memory of them drift away.”  Anyone, dead or alive who cared about their country’s freedom is a patriot.
Once I absorbed all of this information, I felt ashamed I have never really thought that much about how much people give for our county. So many hours of tiring work, so many sacrifices they made, and so many brave people there were who gave their life to their country. Once you take the time to really think and read about patriots, then you could be one too.
